About the Genizah:
For thousands of years the Jewish people have been putting aside all damaged or not-usable holy objects, such as the Torah, other holy Parchments and articles and holy books. This is called Shaimos.
We are forbidden by Hashem in his Torah not to discard his name in any way shape or form. we also need to respect his name even after we can no longer use that particular Torah or holy book etc. like we would respect any important person who died. meaning putting it away with safety and respect.
Putting Shaimos aside means not to place them in the Garbage or to burn the Shaimos. During the past history the world discovered many old Genizah's such as the Chiro Genizah or lately in Afghanistan and many times in Eretz Yisroel (Israel).
In most cases the Beth Genizah Olam will only put away the Shaimos to Storage in a safely manor on our properties. Only when this is impossible such as if its wet etc. The Vaad will than try to get the right Government approvals to bury it.
*
Visiting the Beth Genizah is possible by appointment only
** Warning** Our 3 locations are heavily gated and locked under steady security. Dumping Shaimos without permission at any of our locations either in Monroe, Monticello or in Liberty will be considered like dumping it on the road of the town, with harsh consequences!!!

Vaad L'mishmeres Hashaimos.
Comprised of Gabaiem of major Jewish Kehilos in the USA
Under the Strict Supervision of the C.R.C. "Hisachdus Harabanim" and the OU "Orthodox Union".
*
The 5 big problems:
1) Shaimos internment is in violation of the Law. 2) Most Shaimos trucks end up in landfills. 3) There are more and more Shaimos every year. 4) A proper Shaimos business cannot support itself.
*
The Vaad's Resolutions:
1) Every Shaimos truck should be affiliated with a major Kehilah. 2) Must have a prominent Hechsher. 3) Must be organized and "own" a property for burial etc. Or to be affiliated with one that has a property. 4) Must have certification from the Kehilah, the Hechsher and from the Vaad available at all times.
